G.F. Handel – Solomon, Arrival of the queen of Sheba

Adaptation for 4 flutes in C
(or three flutes in C and an alto flute)

Solomon is an oratorio G.F.Handel wrote in 1748 during the London period of the great German composer. It tells the story of the biblical Solomon and, in particular, in this song that begins the third act, he wants to emphasize the solemnity entrance in Jerusalem of the Queen of Sheba .

Lively instrumental piece, in the original version written for two oboes and strings, is meant to represent the prosperity of George II, King of England, like the great Solomon.

The transcription is for 4 flutes in which the second flute alternates himself in the role of a second solo instrument and in the other one of violin accompaniment.

All flutes try to simulate the full string orchestra sonorities, especially the 4th flute, engaged in a major action of musical support in the lower part.

Have a good fun!
